While AI chatbots exist, most lack personality, depth, and the ability to create meaningful learning relationships. Users want AI characters they can connect with, learn from, and even create themselves.

Real-time Conversations at Scale: The Engineering Behind 30M+ Messages

Building a platform that handles millions of concurrent conversations required a sophisticated real-time architecture. I implemented WebSocket connections with intelligent connection pooling, message queuing systems, and distributed caching to ensure sub-second response times. The system uses a microservices approach where conversation management, AI model routing, and user sessions are handled by specialized services that scale independently based on demand.

Creating a Robust Notification System

Designing a notification system that keeps users engaged without overwhelming them was a critical challenge. I built a multi-layered notification architecture that includes real-time push notifications, email digests, and in-app alerts. The system intelligently prioritizes notifications based on user behavior, conversation importance, and engagement patterns. It handles character mentions, new messages, learning milestones, and social interactions while maintaining 99.9% delivery reliability across all notification channels.

Multi-Model AI Orchestration: Creating Diverse Character Personalities

The platform integrates 10+ different AI models, each optimized for specific use cases. I built an intelligent routing system that matches user requests to the most appropriate model based on conversation context, character personality, and task complexity. For learning scenarios, we use models fine-tuned on educational content. For therapy sessions, we route to models trained on psychological support. This ensures each character feels unique and purpose-built for their role.
